Lamp-Lighting and Oath-Taking Ceremony

Haridwar University organized a heartfelt Lamp-Lighting and Oath-Taking Ceremony for its nursing students on November 25, 2024, symbolizing the students’ formal entry into the nursing profession. This solemn event marked a significant milestone in the journey of these aspiring nurses as they pledged to dedicate themselves to the service of humanity with integrity, compassion, and commitment.

The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, a tribute to Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing. The lamp, a symbol of guidance, care, and enlightenment, was lit by University President Satyendra Gupta, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dharam Beer Singh, and other distinguished guests. The nursing students, holding their own lamps, took their first collective steps toward a noble career, embodying the spirit of care and selflessness that Nightingale represented.

In his address, President Satyendra Gupta highlighted the importance of the occasion, saying, “The lamp-lighting is a powerful symbol of knowledge and service. It represents the light of learning that guides nurses in their journey of selfless care and dedication. This moment is not just ceremonial but a pledge to uphold the highest standards of the nursing profession.”

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dharam Beer Singh reflected on the legacy of Florence Nightingale, often referred to as the “Lady with the Lamp”, whose work continues to inspire millions of healthcare professionals worldwide. He emphasized the vital role nurses play as the backbone of healthcare and the importance of ethical practices and unwavering commitment. “The lamp-lighting ceremony reminds us of the sacred duty of nurses to bring light and hope into the lives of their patients,” he remarked.

The all nursing students, including Akanksha, Swati, Khushi, Aditi, Ashutosh, Ankit, Saurabh, Muskan, and etc, participated with great enthusiasm. They took the oath of service, pledging to uphold the principles of integrity, confidentiality, and empathy in their professional journey. This pledge was a defining moment, symbolizing their commitment to serving society with dedication and care.

The ceremony also featured a range of activities, such as a model exhibition, rangoli competition, painting competition, and cultural performances, adding color and energy to the event. The creativity and talent displayed by the students reflected their well-rounded development and enthusiasm for their chosen path.

Distinguished guests, including Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Rama Bhargava, Director Dr. Vipin Saini, Registrar Sumit Chauhan, Nursing Principal Prof. Sonia Sharma, and esteemed faculty members like Asst Prof. Vinita Pandey and Nursing Tutor Mansi Morya, graced the occasion. Their presence and words of encouragement inspired the students and reinforced the significance of the nursing profession.

University Chairman Satyendra Gupta emphasized the transformative power of the oath and lamp-lighting ceremony. “The flame you hold today is not just a symbol but a promise—a promise to illuminate the lives of those in need.
