UG/PG Program Guidelines

Comprehensive guidelines and policies for undergraduate and postgraduate programs at Haridwar University.

Academic Session

Each academic session shall be divided into Two Semesters (One Odd & One Even) in an academic year:

  • Odd semester: Begins from August and ends in December
  • Even semester: Begins from January and ends in May

Each semester is approximately 16-20 weeks duration with a minimum of 90 working days as per dates notified by the Haridwar University. The Academic Calendar for a session as approved by the Academic Council, includes dates of Commencement and End of the semester examination.

Duration of the Programme

Ph.D. Programme

  • Minimum duration: 3 years (including course work)
  • Maximum duration: 6 years from date of admission
  • Additional extension: Up to 2 years through re-registration
  • Total period should not exceed 8 years

Other Programmes

  • 4-year UG programmes: 8 semesters (max 8 years/16 semesters)
  • 3-year UG programmes: 6 semesters (max 6 years/12 semesters)
  • 2-year PG programmes: 4 semesters (max 4 years/8 semesters)

Extension beyond stipulated period requires special approval from the Vice Chancellor along with prescribed penal fee.

Special Provision for Female Ph.D. Scholars

Female Ph.D. Scholars may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave for up to 240 days in the entire duration of the Ph.D. programme.

Attendance

75%Required

Minimum Attendance Requirement

Every student has to put in 75% average attendance in all subjects in which he/she has registered. Condonation for shortage of attendance below 75% but more than 70% may be granted by the competent authority.

Percentage of attendance of the students will be counted from the date of commencement of the semester, irrespective of his/her date of registration. However, in case of I Year I Semester, attendance will be counted from date of reporting to the Institute or date of commencement of class work, whichever is later.

Relaxation in attendance may be given up to 15% to the student only on the basis of medical ground as per the University norms on submissions of documentary evidence as per academic ordinance.

Attendance of a student is computed by considering total number of periods conducted in all courses as the denominator and the total number of periods actually attended by the student in all courses, as the numerator.

A student may be suspended from the Institute for violation of any of the provisions of this Code. The period of suspension and conditions, if any, shall be clearly indicated in the communication addressed to the student. The student shall lose his/her attendance for the suspended period.

Haridwar University believes in NO DISCRIMINATION between their students and hence the dress code is compulsory for the students of Haridwar University.

All students must attend the University as well as all University functions in prescribed University uniform. Students shall not be allowed to attend classes without proper uniform.

Industrial Training/Internship

The students should undergo Industrial training/Internship for a period as specified in the Curriculum during Prefinal Semester/summer/winter vacation. The training has to be undergone continuously for the entire period.

The Industrial Training/Internship is mandatory for students to complete the Programme and should earn the minimum credit. The credits earned will be indicated in the Grade Sheet.

The fee is to be submitted semester wise. Haridwar University has many options to submit the University fee:

Online Payment

Submit fee from remote location

Online fee submission facility is also available in Haridwar University, students can deposit their fee from remote location, wherever they are.

Cancellation of Admission

The admission of a student at any stage of study shall be cancelled if:

He/she is later found to be ineligible for admission as per the eligibility criteria prescribed by the University or found to have submitted any false document.

He/she is found unable to complete the Programme within the prescribed duration.

He/she is found guilty of indiscipline and gross violation of code of conduct.

He/she fails to make full payment of the prescribed annual fee within the specified deadline.

Discipline Rules

Within Campus

  • Haridwar University is strictly a non-smoking zone and consumption of any category of alcohol, tobacco, pan masala, gutka and drugs etc. is strictly prohibited.
  • Every student must carry his/her Identity Card which should be produced when demanded.
  • Students are expected to be polite individually or in groups and show respect to the faculty/staff of the University.
  • Any indiscipline and misbehavior in class or in the Campus or in the University/Public Transport or even outside the Campus would warrant disciplinary action against the student(s).
  • Ragging or any act that causes mental and physical harassment to another student will invite penal action/penalty and the offender is likely to be expelled from the University as per the directions of the honourable Supreme Court of India.
  • The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited in classrooms, corridors, or anywhere within the Academic and Administrative areas.
  • The use of a helmet is compulsory for everyone who rides a two-wheeler to and from the Campus.

In the Hostels

  • The students must observe complete discipline inside the hostel premises.
  • No waste paper or rubbish would be thrown around/in the hostel. When the student(s) goes out of the room, he/she must ensure that the lights are switched off.
  • Ragging in the hostel and on the campus is strictly prohibited. Any student found engaging in such behavior will be subject to punishment as prescribed against ragging.
  • Students are not allowed to use extra electrical fitting in their rooms unless permitted by the Hostel Authorities.
  • The students should be decently dressed when they are out of rooms. For girls, tight body hugging clothes, short tops etc. are forbidden outside the room.
  • Hostel authorities will not be responsible for any loss of money, jewelry or personal belongings of any student.
  • No gambling of any kind shall be allowed on the premises of the hostel.

Requirements For Examination

A student who has fulfilled the following conditions shall be deemed to have satisfied the attendance requirements for appearing for End Semester Examination of a particular course:

  • Ideally every student is expected to attend all periods and earn 100% attendance from the number of teaching days for that semester.
  • A student shall normally be permitted to appear for End semester examination of the course if the student has satisfied the attendance requirements.
  • A student who has already appeared for a course in a semester and passed the examination is not entitled to reappear in the same course for improvement of letter grades / marks.

The examination in each semester will be conducted according to the syllabi approved by the Academic Council. Each subject will carry credits as per the approved scheme of subjects.
