Dr. Adesh K Arya, Pro Vice Chancellor of Haridwar University, Roorkee, while talking to our correspondent today, said that there are many important reasons behind the increasing demand for electrical engineers in India, in which the figures of the latest survey also play an important role. It has been seen in this survey that with the expansion of the energy sector in India and the advent of new technologies, the opportunities for electrical engineers are increasing very rapidly in the future.

According to the latest survey According to a recent survey, 75 percent of India’s large industries are now planning to adopt smart grids and renewable energy systems, which will require skilled and qualified electrical engineers. The report also stated that the number of engineers working in renewable energy and smart grid projects is expected to increase by 50 percent in the next five years.
Key points of the survey:-
Growing demand for renewable energy The renewable energy sector is growing rapidly due to the Government of India’s plan to install 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel based energy capacity by 2030. The role of electrical engineers has become important in projects related to this.
The increasing use of smart grid technology involves efficient financing and management of energy. Electrical engineers have to be involved in the design and implementation of new solutions.
The increase in the production and use of electric vehicles is also leading to a rapid increase in the demand for electrical engineers, especially for battery management, charging infrastructure and energy efficiency systems.

Status of employment opportunities in India by the end of 2025: The job prospects of the electrical engineering sector in India are estimated to grow by 65 percent by 2025, with job creation especially in the smart grid, renewable energy, and electric vehicle sectors. Apart from this, the increasing influence of Industry 4.0 and automation is also creating new engineering roles.
Government Initiatives:- Several schemes of the Government of India, such as Make in India, Digital India, and Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana, are not only promoting technological development but also creating new employment opportunities for engineers. The government is paying special attention to smart city projects, solar energy and wind energy, which are creating new employment opportunities for electrical engineers.
Dr. Adesh K. Arya said that along with these changes taking place in the world of electrical engineering, we are seeing that there is a change in the field of energy, technology and smart solutions in India. Understanding this change, new possibilities are opening up for Indian engineers. Especially, those who want to work in areas like renewable energy, smart grids, and electric vehicles. There are great opportunities available for them.
Latest Statistics and Assessments
Career Opportunities in Electrical Engineering:- Along with IT and Computer Science, Electrical Engineering has also emerged as an important field. According to the survey, with 57.69 percent employment potential, the sector is still growing rapidly with technological change.
Compared to IT and CSE engineers, the growing job demand in electrical engineering indicates that the sector will grow further in the coming years, especially when India is promoting smart cities, renewable energy, and emerging technologies.
Professor Arya, while talking exclusively to our correspondent, said that Haridwar University has prepared the curriculum of Electrical and Electronics Engineering according to the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020). Under this, major subjects of computer science and engineering have also been included in the curriculum of electrical and electronics engineering.
The curriculum of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Haridwar University has been updated in accordance with NEP-2020. It includes major subjects of computer science and engineering. This will give double benefits to the students doing B-Tech. They will not only get expertise in traditional electrical engineering, but will also prepare a strong foundation in the fields of computer science and IT.
Dr. Adesh K. Arya also said that this change will provide many important opportunities to the students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. They will get opportunities to get jobs in 14 Maharatna companies, 26 Nav Ratna companies, and 59 Mini Ratna companies of India as well as electrical sector companies of all states, railways, becoming a gazetted officer through Public Service Commission, mobile companies and about 14,13,249 private companies.
Apart from this, Dr. Arya said that electrical engineers can now also work in IT and computer companies. Because now they will also have computer science skills. This will further increase their employability, and they can also make careers in areas like smart technologies, cyber security, artificial intelligence (AL), machine learning (ML) and data science.
Opportunities in major companies of India There are many employment opportunities for electrical engineers in the great companies of India such as NTPC, BSNL, Petroleum, Power Grid Corporation, BHEL, and Coal India. Apart from this, electrical engineers can also get job opportunities in 11 companies like TCS, L&T. Wipro, Infosys. Accenture, and Cognizant etc.
With this move, Haridwar University has opened new avenues for the students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, who can play their role not only in traditional engineering but also in IT, Computer Science and Smart Technologies. This will increase employment opportunities in major industries of India and students will get more opportunities.
The demand for electrical engineers in India is now playing an important role in a global perspective. As India is becoming a leader in renewable energy, smart grids, electric vehicles, and smart technologies, the demand for professionals specializing in this field is also increasing. Latest surveys and government initiatives show that this sector will emerge as a major employment sector in the times to come.
