Examination System Overview

Haridwar University follows a comprehensive examination system designed to evaluate students' academic performance fairly and transparently. These rules and regulations are established to maintain the integrity of the examination process and ensure that all students are assessed on equal terms.

All students are required to familiarize themselves with these regulations and adhere to them strictly. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action as determined by the university's examination committee.

General Examination Rules

  • Students must carry their valid University ID card to the examination hall.
  • Students should arrive at the examination venue at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • No student will be allowed to enter the examination hall 30 minutes after the commencement of the examination.
  • No student is permitted to leave the examination hall during the first 45 minutes and the last 15 minutes of the examination.
  • Mobile phones, smart watches, calculators (unless specifically permitted), and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited in the examination hall.
  • Students must sit according to the seating arrangement provided by the invigilator.
  • Students must sign the attendance sheet circulated during the examination.

Eligibility Criteria for Examinations

To be eligible to appear for the end-semester examinations, students must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Minimum 75% attendance in each course. Students with attendance between 65% and 75% may be permitted to appear for examinations with a medical certificate or other valid reasons, subject to approval by the Dean.
  • Completion of all assignments, projects, and practical work as prescribed in the course curriculum.
  • Payment of all outstanding fees and dues to the university.
  • No pending disciplinary actions that prohibit examination participation.

Examination Conduct & Malpractice

Haridwar University maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards examination malpractice. The following actions are considered as malpractice:

  • Possession of unauthorized materials in the examination hall.
  • Copying from another student or allowing another student to copy.
  • Communication with other students during the examination.
  • Impersonation or having someone else take the examination on your behalf.
  • Disruptive behavior in the examination hall.
  • Tampering with answer booklets.
  • Attempting to influence the examiner or examination staff.

Consequences of Malpractice:

Students found guilty of examination malpractice may face penalties ranging from cancellation of the particular paper to debarment from the university, depending on the severity of the offense.

Haridwar University follows a 10-point grading system for evaluating student performance:

Re-evaluation and Supplementary Examinations

Re-evaluation Process:

  • Students can apply for re-evaluation of answer scripts within 15 days of the declaration of results.
  • The application must be submitted to the Examination Department along with the prescribed fee.
  • The answer script will be re-evaluated by a different examiner.
  • If there is a change in marks, the revised marks will be considered final.

Supplementary Examinations:

  • Students who fail in up to 3 courses in a semester are eligible for supplementary examinations.
  • Supplementary examinations are typically conducted within 30 days of the declaration of results.
  • Students must apply for supplementary examinations within the stipulated time frame along with the prescribed fee.
  • The maximum grade that can be awarded in a supplementary examination is 'B' (regardless of the marks obtained).

Registration

Students are required to register for their exams within a specified timeframe, usually before the examination period begins. Late registrations may not be accepted.

Eligibility

Exam Timetable

Identification

Appeals Process

Students have the right to appeal exam results or decisions related to their exams. The university usually has an established appeals process that students can follow if they believe there has been an error or unfairness in the assessment.

Academic Misconduct

Instances of academic misconduct during exams are taken seriously and may result in penalties, such as failing the exam, suspension, or expulsion from the university.

Special Provisions

Provisions for Students with Disabilities:

  • Extra time (up to 30 minutes per hour) for students with certified disabilities.
  • Provision of scribes for visually impaired students or those with writing disabilities.
  • Special seating arrangements as required.
  • Question papers in alternative formats (e.g., Braille, large print) upon request.

Medical Emergencies:

  • Students who miss examinations due to medical emergencies can apply for special examinations with proper medical documentation.
  • The application must be submitted within 7 days of the missed examination.
  • The decision to conduct special examinations rests with the Examination Committee.

The Office of Controller Examinations being the key department and custodian of examination records which provides quality service to the students in all spheres of examination matters.

Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Arya is holding the position of Controller of Examinations. He has vast experience of conducting University and entrance examinations of national repute in offline as well as in online mode. He received the Ph.D (Mathematics) in the area of Inventory Control from HNB Garhwal Central University, Srinagar, Uttarakhand, India. Dr. Arya received the M.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics from IIT, Roorkee, India.

He has published more than 25 research papers in national and international journals and conferences. His areas of interest include Fluid Dynamics, Operation Research, Differential Equations and Differential Geometry. He has supervised more than 15 Master's students in his research career. He is a senior member of the International Association of Engineers (IAENG). He has more than 17 years of teaching and research experience.
