"Question. Explore. Discover."
What Does "Shodh" Mean?
Our Core Purpose
To cultivate an active research ethos across every discipline at Haridwar University — Engineering, Computer Applications, Applied Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, Agriculture, and Management. By actively supporting the university's IQAC, IPR Cell, and research promotion policies, Shodh ensures research is an accessible undergraduate adventure, not just a doctoral obligation.
Ms. Sanjana Tayal
Faculty Convener
Haridwar University, Roorkee
Oversees undergraduate research grants, paper writing mentoring, journal club schedules, and Shodh Sangam conference organizing committees.
Club Objectives
Demystify the scientific research workflow for undergraduate students early in their academic journey.
Accelerate the volume and quality of student-authored publications in SCOPUS, Web of Science, and UGC-CARE indexed journals.
Facilitate patent drafting and intellectual property protection for student inventions and prototypes.
Promote interdisciplinary research bridging engineering, smart computing, agriculture, and healthcare sciences.
Equip scholars for competitive higher research examinations including GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GPAT, and international fellowships.
Key Activities & Academic Support
Research Methodology Bootcamp
A semester-start intensive series training students on framing research questions, systematic literature review (Google Scholar, Scopus, PubMed), reference management (Zotero, Mendeley), plagiarism ethics, and statistical tools (SPSS, R, Python).
Bi-Weekly Journal Club
Discipline-specific cohorts where students present, dissect, and critique recent breakthrough research papers in pharmaceutical chemistry, machine learning, agronomy, nursing protocols, or structural engineering.
Mentored Undergraduate Research Projects
Pairs promising undergraduate and postgraduate students with faculty researchers for 6-month projects. Standout proposals receive seed-grant support to manufacture test models and conduct clinical evaluations.
Paper Writing & SCOPUS/WOS Publishing Support
Hands-on editorial clinics walking students through drafting scholarly manuscripts, navigating peer reviews, identifying high-impact SCOPUS/Web of Science and UGC-CARE journals, and avoiding predatory venues.
Patent & Intellectual Property (IPR) Clinics
Collaborative workshops with the university IPR Cell educating inventors on prior-art search, drafting provisional patent applications, copyright registration, and industrial design filings for student innovations.
Annual 'Shodh Sangam' Student Conference
The university-wide student research conference featuring oral presentations, poster sessions judged by external scholars, Best Paper honours, and publication of an official abstract compendium with registered ISBN.
Book & Book-Chapter Publishing Initiative
Structured guidance helping students and faculty co-author textbook chapters, laboratory manuals, and research monographs, culminating in the annual 'HU Student Compendium'.
MOOCs, NPTEL & SWAYAM Certifications
Coordinated credit-transfer facilitation and mentorship for premier online certifications from IITs, IISc, NPTEL, SWAYAM, edX, and Coursera to elevate postgraduate and industry profiles.
